After a restful night, we came together for a lovely French breakfast complete with croissants! we journeyed into the old city, or Québec City, and met our tour guide for the day, Tony. He took us on a bus/walking tour of Québec City, which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has buildings dating back to the 1600’s. Our bus driver was amazing navigating the narrow, winding cobblestone streets! (Thank you Mr. Ruiz!) We admired the historical buildings and saw beautiful murals painted on the side of some of them. The center piece of the old city is Le Château Frontenac, a famously expensive hotel where dignitaries and presidents have stayed.
(The internet has not been strong enough to upload photos. I have some beautiful group shots and will upload photos when wifi is stronger!)
Our morning tour included a trip to the Fields of Abraham, a vast park overlooking the St. Lawrence River. We learned all about the French and British occupations of Québec, and battles that occurred over the years. We then saw the Québec Parliament building and the many statues that adorn walls. Tony then took us to the boardwalk below Château Frontenac and showed us more canons! The canons all over the city were from the British, French, and Russian armies.
After a quick lunch, we made our way to Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge….a magnificent park which was hosting the Mosaïculture exhibit…..a unique topiary of Mother Earth and all her creatures lined every walkway. We performed a concert outdoors for all the park attendees. We were very well received and enjoyed getting to perform at such a beautiful location!
We returned to the hotel for a quick rest before we went back to Old City to wonder about and explore! We discovered many yummy Canadian snacks and shops with fun trinkets. We then went to our dinner reservation at Café du Paris, right in the heart of Québec City, just a few skips from the Château Frontenac. We all enjoyed a tasty meal, while horse and carriages trotted by the window. We chatted with each other all night about what we discovered when we explored the city!
Back to the hotel for some rest! And a concert in the old city this morning! Check back for today’s events and more pictures when I can upload!
