Group Piano: More than a solo art form (Adults only)

Mondays 5:30-6:30 pm with Tyler Weakland

Term 1: September 21 – November 7 
Term 2: November 11 – December 18 

Do you ever wish you could sit down and sight read through a piano piece? Do you want to learn how to accompany a singer or a choir? Or how to follow a conductor? Do you want to be able to harmonize a melody? How about improvising?! If you answered yes to these questions, this is the class for you! Sign up today! In addition to discovering solo piano repertoire, we will learn how to be multifaceted pianists. Must have a piano or keyboard at home. Music will be provided. At least 5 years of prior piano study is required.
$120/term for parents of a registered WMA Chorister
$200/term for nonmember adults

Meet the Instructor

Praised for his verve and adroit collaborative piano playing by the Charleston City PaperTyler Weakland is a vocal coach at Westminster Choir College accompanying voice students in classical art song, opera, and musical theatre repertoire. He also received his Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Music with concentrations in piano and voice from Westminster Choir College, where he studied with Steve Pilkington, Ingrid Clarfield, J.J. Penna, and Kathy Price. An experienced choral accompanist, Mr. Weakland has worked extensively with the choirs of Westminster Choir College, and recently made his Lincoln Center and David Geffen Hall debut. Throughout recent summers he has worked closely with Charles Bruffy, Weston Noble, Dalton Baldwin, Benita Valente, and Metropolitan Opera language coach Hemdi Kfir. Mr. Weakland has conducted choirs in Vienna, and Oxford as part of the Choral Music Institute where he studied the boychoir tradition in churches of the United Kingdom. While a member of the renowned Westminster Choir, Mr. Weakland enjoyed several residencies at the Spoleto Festival USA and was a member of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra. In addition to working with the Princeton Boychoir, he currently serves as the Bell Choir and Children’s Choir Director at Christ Church on 60th and Park Avenue in New York City.
